Ball valves are great for vacuum and cryogenic services
A ball valve is a quarter-turn, straight-through (full port) valve. It has a round (ball) element used for closure generally with a hole bored through the middle of it. It is seated on both sides and is usually used for on/off service but operate well as moderate throttling application that do not require extremely crucial accuracy.
Ball valves can be used both in liquid and gas service but the service must be a nonabrasive service. They are generally great for slurry services or with other processes that have particulates in the material since the seats in the valve tend to wipe the ball away of particulates when the valve is stroked. These valves are also great for vacuum and cryogenic services.
