the proper way to replace brass ball valves
The proper way to handle the situation is not difficult. You will need to return
an attached threaded pipe to the union and simply connect the loosely threaded
pipe to your Ball Valve. After this you have to reassemble the pipe and valve to
the hanging pipe. When this is done the next step is reconnecting this union to
the other side of the system. You will also need two HD pipe wrenches. These are
used at the same time to break the union and eventually retighten it after the
brass Ball Valve was replaced with a new one.
The real problem with this
scenario is that the brass ball valve cracks. This is most likely because of it
getting frozen. As time passes you will end up having to replace the 3/4 inch
brass Ball Valve every year as it will always crack unless you can have a way to
drain the entire line at the end of summer. The best solution would be to move
it into a heated portion of your home or somewhere where it is hot and it can be
turned off in order for the line to be drained.
