I. -196Cryogenic Ball Valve Core Parameters

 For material selection, the body and bonnet are made of austenitic stainless steel such as CF8M, which exhibits no cold embrittlement at low temperatures. The stem is hard chrome plated.  For structural design, an extended bonnet keeps the packing gland away from the cryogenic zone, preventing packing freeze-up. A drip plate is installed at the mid-section of the extension neck to prevent condensate from penetrating the insulation layer. Cavity pressure relief adopts DIB-2 construction, allowing automatic relief to the upstream side when abnormal middle cavity pressure occurs.

 For performance parameters, pressure ratings range from Class150 to Class2500, with sizes from DN15 to DN1200. The sealing level meets ISO 15848 zero visible leakage requirements.

II. Key Cold Box Installation Instructions

 First, the stem must be installed vertically upward. Horizontal installation is strictly prohibited. Otherwise, cryogenic media will fill the extended bonnet, causing packing freeze failure, and cold conduction may injure operators.

Second, the pressure relief direction must be properly aligned. Verify the flow arrow on the valve body before installation to ensure the relief port faces the upstream side. For isolation valves on both sides of a control valve, the relief directions should face away from the control valve toward the respective pipeline ends.

 Third, thorough drying before installation is mandatory. Hydrostatic testing is strictly prohibited on site. Use dry nitrogen to purge the valve cavity and confirm no moisture remains before positioning the valve.

 

III. Cold Box Insulation and Drip Plate Handling

 Common insulation materials include foam glass and expanded perlite. The drip plate must be located on the outside of the insulation layer, allowing condensate to drip off the edge. The extension length of the bonnet neck must comply with MSS SP-134 standards, ensuring the packing gland is exposed outside the insulation layer for easy packing tightening or replacement without damaging the insulation.
