How to Replace a Single-Handle Ball-Valve Assembly on a Faucet

In single-handle faucets, the ball valve mixes hot and cold water based on the placement of the handle.Ball Valves When the handle is placed in the off position, the ball valve prevents further water flow from the spout. Through time and use, the single-handle faucet can develop leakage due to wear of the ball valve assembly. You can replace the ball valve in your single-handle faucet.
Instructions
1 Shut off the water supply to the faucet. Turn on the faucet to relieve the pressure in the water lines.
2 Loosen the set screw under the faucet handle. Ball ValvesTurn the set screw counterclockwise using the proper size hex wrench.
3 Remove the handle by lifting it up and off from the ball-valve stem.
4 Remove the adjustable ring nut from the faucet with lock-jaw pliers. Turn the nut counterclockwise.
5 Remove the ball valve from its seat by pulling it up by hand at its stem.
6 Remove the rubber seat and spring by hand.
7 Install the new seat and spring followed by the new ball valve.
8 Replace the adjustable ring nut. Tighten the nut by turning clockwise with the lock-jaw pliers.
9 Place the handle onto the ball valve stem loosely and move the handle to the off position. Remove the handle.
10 Restore the water pressure to the faucet. If the ball valve is leaking, tighten the ring nut slowly until the leak stops.
11 Install the handle and tighten the set screw clockwise. BALL VALVESPlace the handle in the off position.
12 Restore the water pressure.
13 Remove the aerator from the faucet spout. Turn the aerator counterclockwise by hand. If the aerator is tight, place a cloth around it and remove it with the lock-jaw pliers.
14 Turn the faucet on to bleed any accumulated air out of the water lines. This usually takes between five and 10 seconds.
15 Replace the aerator by tightening it clockwise by hand.
